FreddeGredde "I like to create. Not replay things I have already played a hundred times before"

Few years ago talented boy Fredrik Larsson, hailing from Gävle, Sweden, posted on YouTube video "32 Songs In 8 Minutes", which turned out to be a huge success. He went through 32 songs in eight minutes with absolute fluidity, sang without any breaks. He has created his own solo project FreddeGredde and has released 2 albums. Now with new power he continues work on his upcoming third new album.

Fredrik Larsson (FreddeGredde), 16 September 1985, Gävle, Sweden.

ML&L - Thank you Fredrik for your time. First traditional question how did you get started?

FreddeGredde - I did sing already as a child. My parents couldn't really sing, but they always sang with me and my brothers anyway, encouraging us. Then I stopped entirely when I was maybe 12, and didn't start again until I was 20. That's when I started trying to learn to sing "properly".

ML&L - Who were your music influences?

FreddeGredde - I see myself as a musician and not a singer. I just "needed" to sing because a voice is needed in most music genres. I started making music because it was one of many things (sports, arts, languages, video games etc) that I wanted to understand, and master.

ML&L - What music albums did you grow up listening to?

FreddeGredde - I listened to Swedish artists as a child (Magnus Uggla, Tomas Ledin), and then got into rock- Metallica, The Offspring, Aerosmith. They were my first favorite bands.

ML&L - Who of your contemporaries do you listen to the most?

FreddeGredde - I stopped listening to music maybe 5 years ago. I got tired of it, and it was so frustrating to create music that I personally like, that no one else likes, and when what I create is very simple and "dumb", THAT is when people like it. I stopped respecting music, and music fans. It's been frustrating.

Für Elise on Guitar (FreddeGredde)

ML&L - What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs?

FreddeGredde - I have never cared for lyrics much, because for me, it's the MUSIC that is important. But my main themes are usually love, depression, stars in space.

ML&L - How would you define your sound? For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound.

FreddeGredde - My old albums are progressive rock. Complex, inaccessible music, where you really have to be open-minded to appreciate. My new upcoming album (released in December 2016) is a lot more accessible. It's difficult to describe, but there is a lot of guitars and piano, pleasant sounds, with a bit of symphonic movie soundtrack feeling to it.

The Movie Theme Medley (FreddeGredde))

ML&L - What genre of music can't you stand to listen to?

FreddeGredde - I don't think any genre is worse than any other.

ML&L - Do you prefer on specific genre of music over any other genre? If so, what genre and why?

FreddeGredde - My favorite music genre is progressive rock, because it's the one that challenges me, that surprises me, that tries to do something creative and different.

ML&L - If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?

FreddeGredde - I have made music in every possible genre.

Mega Man 9 Rock Medley (FreddeGredde)

ML&L - When can we expect to hear another cover song from you? Can you tell us what the next one will be, or is it a surprise?

FreddeGredde - I will post an ambitious Disney Medley at the end of November, to promote my new album. It will be a mix of all the most beloved songs from the animated Disney classics, songs from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King, Snow White, and so on! I think you will enjoy it.

ML&L - What live performance experience have you had?

FreddeGredde - I performed live a few times when I was young, was in a few local talent shows, performed in a pub. Sometimes for family gatherings. But it's not really anything I'm interested. I like to create. Not replay things I have already played a hundred times before.

ML&L - What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in the music industry?

FreddeGredde - The most difficult thing I've had to endure? Definitely the difference between my own taste in music, and other people's taste in music. We are basically opposite! Normal people want familiarity, a steady beat, simple melodies. I want surprises and creative things. It's hard to find a balance that makes everyone happy.

ML&L - What would you be doing if you weren't making music?

FreddeGredde - I don't know what I would be doing. Probably animation.

ML&L - What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

FreddeGredde - My motto is... Develop and learn as much as possible, don't bring sadness or destruction behind you, and try to find happiness.

ML&L - What are your immediate music career goals?

FreddeGredde - I will release this new CD, and post a bunch of new videos to promote it. I hope it will be a success.

ML&L - Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us?

FreddeGredde - Like I said earlier, I like to learn things. I think you can see some fun video editing, in for example my Movie Theme Medley. In my upcoming Disney Medley, I will sing in 10 different languages. Also I'm good at sports, but I can't exactly show that online.
