ML&L - Welcome and thank you for taking the time. Let’s start the interview. Where and what made you decide that you wanted to follow the path of hip-hop?

DeeDubb - I have always been into the culture from the start. All elements of hip-hop, every aspect.


ML&L - What were your muses or heroes who inspired you to pick up the mic? Who were your music influences?

DeeDubb - There are too many to name and hand pick specifically, but the movies Beat Street & Krush Groove are most definitely huge influences.


ML&L - What hip-hop albums did you grow up listening to?

DeeDubb - From Sugar Hill Gang all the way to the current. But I prefer late 80’s and 90’s era hip-hop music.


ML&L - What was the first record/CD you ever bought and do you still listen to it?

DeeDubb - Tell you the truth that was so long ago I can’t even remember who it was, but I remember vividly listening to The Jackson 5 album on my record player as a young in and feeling every lyric like I was part of what they were talking about. This was before the hip-hop era ever even evolved. And when I hear it to this day it always take me back to good ole fashion real music.

ML&L - Who of your contemporaries do you listen to the most?

DeeDubb - Honestly, nowadays who I listen to the most is my people that I know personally who are making good Hip-Hop, and mostly underground artists and what people consider now as old school. I do not listen to mainstream radio.


ML&L - Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs?

DeeDubb - I write my songs. The themes and or topics usually come from what the beat is telling me or how it makes me feel at the moment I first listen to the track. But it can be a wide variety of topics that I live, been through, seen or know about and can relate to for the most part.


ML&L - Do you have your own songs in your favourite playlist?

DeeDubb - Most definitely.


ML&L - How would you define your sound?

DeeDubb - East coast boom bap.. Period!!

ML&L - Is there a story behind your music?

DeeDubb - I am the Real DeeDubb, anybody else is a fraud. I will just put it like that for now.


ML&L - What would be your dream collaboration with any rapper or producer?

DeeDubb - Dream rapper collaboration, I would say anybody from the era I love and someone I respect as a true emcee, no one in particular.. again to many to name. And my dream producer hands down would be DJ Premier .. the best to ever do it in my book.


ML&L - What live performance experience have you had?

DeeDubb - I have experienced a bunch of live performances, but the best thing to happen so far was to go on tour and open up for  the legendary hip-hop group Onyx with my crew ATV. Shout out to MakemPay, Rah Bigalow, Larceny, Myster DL & Soprano Fly. That was a great time and experience. Fredro Starr & Sticky Fingaz showed me a lot and I rock with them heavy. They are my guys. 100 Mad is the movement under the Onyx imprint.


ML&L - What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in the music industry?

DeeDubb - The saturation of non talented crap music being put out with everyone thinking they are actually good when they are not. Which in turn makes it more difficult for the true emcees to get the recognition we deserve.


ML&L - Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organizations? 

DeeDubb - Currently not signed to a major label, I’m independent. I’m now working with Tumor Records based in Switzerland & had previously started a label with my partners, ATV Music Group, which is currently under reconstruction so to speak.


ML&L - What would you be doing if you weren't making music?

DeeDubb - Whatever god has planned for me I live one day at a time. It’s all about progression at life, getting money and being around for the kids.


ML&L - Do you have any advice for new singers-rappers?

DeeDubb - Yes!! STOP! ...but seriously, if you’re serious about it, go extremely hard because it’s a million people trying to do exactly what you’re doing... make your grind stick out from the rest and believe in yourself. Don’t let anybody tell you different ..reach for the stars.

ML&L - What are your immediate music career goals?

DeeDubb - My immediate goals, is just to stay busy, I will be soon releasing a new project titled “Deal With It”, also got a couple new visuals out and some in the works. If something comes my way that best benefits me and my situation then it will be dealt with. But right now just to stay focused and on the grind.


ML&L - Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us?

DeeDubb - I love to be the best father I can be to my kids, I’m a hard worker at everything I set out to accomplish. Looking into getting my barbers license sometime in the near future. In my down time I enjoy playing Xbox One with my peoples... Gamertag is deedubb CT, come get this work.
